Item The Sustainability Inclusion in Project Contracts and its Impact on the Performance of UAE Public Sector Projects(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2024-05) ALAJAMI, SAEED; Dr Waris KhanSustainable project management practices considering the triple bottom line remain vital for the efficient execution of the project activities and the overall success and performance of projects. This requires careful and controlled planning and monitoring of the project activities, controlling the execution to ensure compliance with sustainable practices throughout by including relevant clauses in the contracts for efficient project delivery across the overall project management life cycle. The research aims to investigate the impact of the influence of sustainability in project contracts and its impact on the performance of UAE public sector projects. The research has been developed with the consideration of positivism philosophy, deductive approach and explanatory design. The research has integrated primary data collection sources thereby collecting information from online surveys. The analysis of the data has been conducted with the inclusion of descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. However, concerning inferential analysis, tests of regression and correlation have been integrated to facilitate hypothesis testing. The survey included feedback from 100 respondents who have been from public sector projects in the UAE. The descriptive analysis reflected that sustainability inclusion has been essential for public sector projects as it improved the performance and quality of the same. The project managers have been found to integrate three kinds of sustainability such as economic, social and environmental. The inferential analysis further reflected that there has been a direct relationship between the performance of the projects and sustainability inclusion. The government policy makers need to establish guidelines based on sustainability legislation to improve the environmental performance of the public sector construction projects in the UAE. Worker training is an effective strategy for improving sustainability practices with the use of contracts. Government agencies require proactiveness in spreading awareness about the significance of sustainability and using it for determining the viability of the tenders and awarding the projects to the contractors. Keywords: sustainability, contract, construction, public sector projects, UAE, triple bottom line etc.Item The Integration of Agile Methodology in the Development of Software Project(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2024-08) ALMHEIRI, MOHAMMED; Dr Maria PapadakiThroughout the last century, agile methodologies approaches have developed as a key fresh perspective of planning and implementing project activities. Agile proponents have produced a number of assertions regarding the advantages of agile approaches, such as increased group productivity and effectiveness, improved software reliability, and business effectiveness. Although latest evidence on the usage of agile methods has yielded promising findings, a variety of other agile process proponents' prescriptive assertions have yet to be validated. It has long been believed that software development processes are influenced by ecological and other variables. This implies that the effectiveness of a software production methodology is determined by relationships among the atmosphere's characteristics and the production product's characteristics. Conventional software techniques have been impossible to generate high standard of quality of implementation, especially with a relatively large starting expenditure, according to agile proponents, since the software development life cycle is fundamentally unpredictable and experimental. However, agile proponents say that the software creation methodology is much closer like to that of a fresh technology design approach than it is to that of a design phase. Agile approaches, as a result, have incorporated methods, approaches, and accompanying technology that are supposed to improve production performance. Nevertheless, as discussed in Chapter 2, a large number of agile methodologies' prescriptive claims have not yet been analyzed, and the approaches themselves depict only partially homogeneous results. The findings reveal that the amount to which agile methods are used has a beneficial impact on project performance. Project management measures, product attributes, and anticipated economic implications all had substantial implications on expected successful project views. On the other side, the influence of the amount to which the agile technique is used on project management success characteristics was demonstrated to be nonlinear. Whereas the benefits of agile usage were typically favorable, the gradient of the impact had previously been significantly reduced at the average. drastically growing once more The use of the agile technique has proven to be beneficial in the development of a software project. The findings revealed that, in most models, the implementation of agile methods has a positive influence on project success; nevertheless, the benefits were diverse. The use of agile impact has a regular favorable direct influence on the Quality element. In many scenarios, greater quality was associated to higher levels of agile approach adoption, however the effects were not linear. While the use of agile methodologies was consistently high, the consequences were complex, with some good and negative effects happening within each paradigm. In the architectural difficulty assessments, all impacts were significant and in the predicted pattern. In the methodological difficulties scenarios, the impact on expenditure was non-significant, the impact on schedule was varied in orientation, and the result on breadth was as expected. Eventually, the dynamic analysis is shown, had a considerable, but reversed, impact on the budget outcome, while the implication on time and scope results was as anticipated.Item Analysis of Photovoltaic Installations Performance and Deployment: Case Dubai Energy Sector(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2024-07) DHIMISH, AMEER; Professor Edward OchiengThis thesis investigates the performance and degradation of photovoltaic (PV) systems in Dubai, a region characterized by its unique climatic conditions. With a growing emphasis on sustainable and clean energy, understanding the efficiency and longevity of PV installations in such environments is crucial. This study focuses on analyzing the Performance Ratio (PR) and degradation trends of two prevalent PV technologies: polycrystalline silicon (Poly-Si) and monocrystalline silicon (Mono-Si). Employing a comprehensive dataset provided by Al-Suwaidi Constructions, the research analyzed PV systems across various strategic locations in Dubai, including Jebel Ali, Al Qusais, Al Barsha, and Al Lisaili. These systems, integrated directly with the grid and varying in capacity from 1.5 MW to 2 MW, were scrutinized over a five-year period (January 2018 to December 2022). The methodology involved a detailed PR analysis using linear regression models to identify long-term trends and annual degradation rates. Key findings revealed that Poly-Si systems, despite being less efficient initially, exhibited lower annual degradation rates (-0.73% and -0.93%) compared to Mono-Si systems (-1.48% and -1.63%). This suggests a notable advantage in terms of stability and long-term performance for Poly-Si in harsh environments like Dubai. The study also contextualized these findings within the global landscape, comparing the performance of PV systems in various geographical settings. The research contributes significantly to the field of renewable energy, providing valuable insights for stakeholders in selecting appropriate PV technologies considering environmental conditions and long-term efficiency. It underscores the importance of tailored solutions in the deployment of sustainable energy technologies, particularly in regions facing extreme climatic challenges.Item The Role of Artifical Intelligence in Enterprise Risk Managment(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-03) ABASS, NADA YOUSEF; Professor Edward ochiengIn the modern world, artificial intelligence is not a new concept. Companies, both large and small have incorporated artificial intelligence in risk management. AI can be an effective tool in business since it drives cost efficiencies and operational awareness. Businesses presently use artificial intelligence to achieve strategic transformation, including better risk management. Effective risk management is relatively considered far from becoming an innovation inhibitor, but it’s pivotal to the successful adoption of artificial intelligence. One the main challenges for organizations is less about dealing with new risks or existing risks, but getting the right framework to handle the risks in a timely manner. To avoid issues with risk management, organizations must learn how to reap the benefits of AI. This will make them prepared to handle future risks. Therefore, management and boards must develop a meaningful understanding of new risk management technologies, including the existing and potential uses within organizations. They also need to take a firm grip on the implications of artificial intelligence from a risk perspective. In this research, the aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in enterprise risk management, and especially on the context of increased accuracy, efficiency, and speed of decision-making. This research will uncover the biggest challenges that organizations experience when incorporating AI for enterprise risk management and discuss how organizational management can leverage AI to improve enterprise risk management. To complete the research, quantitative data will be collected from different sources, and then analyzed for implications in risk management.Item Innovation Management in Organizations: A Review on Responsible Innovation Practices(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-02) ALZAROONI, ABDALLA MAHMOUD; Dr Papadaki MariaThe study's purpose is to investigate the role of innovation management assessment, responsible innovation, policy perspective, and perception of responsible innovation in the successful implementation of responsible innovation processes. In the context of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a developing country with a rapidly growing construction sector, understanding the critical success factors (CSFs) influencing the performance of PPPs becomes imperative. This dissertation aims to investigate the CSFs influencing the success of public–private partnerships (PPPs) in the construction sector of the UAE. It endeavours to conduct a comprehensive analysis by comparing these identified factors with the existing literature on developed countries. The research design adopts a quantitative questionnaire filled by key expert participants in PPP projects from the public and private sectors. The findings reveal the universal CSFs that transcend geographical boundaries, such as loyalty or assurance, governmental finance, and stakeholder support. Additionally, the study uncovers UAE-specific CSFs, including the legal and regulatory framework, authorities' cooperation, robust private consortium, and so forth. The comparison between the explored factors and the literature from developed countries sheds light on the unique factors for the UAE in fostering successful PPP projects. The research highlights the importance of a clear project objective and scope in the UAE context, while also underscoring the need for robust commercial groups and the requirement for political support, … etc. Furthermore, the study proposes recommendations to enhance the achievement of PPPs' work in the UAE. However, the research acknowledges certain limitations, including a restricted sample size, time constraints, language barriers, subjectivity, and cultural sensitivity. Despite these limitations, this dissertation contributes significantly to the understanding of CSFs for the success of public–private partnerships in the UAE construction sector and offers valuable insights to policymakers, practitioners, and researchers. The study's findings aid in shaping effective strategies for implementing successful PPP projects, fostering sustainable economic development, and meeting the infrastructure demands of a rapidly evolving nation like the UAE.Item Analyzing the Importance of Cost Overrun Planning and Control for Construction Projects Success in the UAE Region(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-07) EL KHATIB, AHMAD; Professor Khalid Al-MarriCost overruns are considered a major hindrance to project completion as they lead to a decline in the contractor's income, resulting in significant financial setbacks and endangering the entire project. The cost of construction stands as a critical element in determining the project's overall success. Throughout the entire lifespan of the construction industry, a prominent concern arises, namely, the pervasive impact of uncertainty and deadlines on all projects, regardless of their size or complexity. These elements continuously pose challenges and demand careful attention from stakeholders involved in construction endeavors. Cost overruns are a prevailing issue in construction projects within developing countries. Such overruns manifest across various construction undertakings, exhibiting different degrees of severity. Hence, it is imperative to recognize and address the critical concern of construction cost overruns. Several factors contribute to the occurrence of cost overruns in construction projects, with the most prominent ones being design and contract-related aspects, estimation uncertainties, planning and scheduling challenges, project management complexities, labor constraints, financial factors, material and machinery considerations, construction phase issues, communication hurdles, and external influences. The current study holds significant value as it consolidates the most frequent causes of construction cost overruns, enabling project participants to identify, tackle, and mitigate the adverse effects of these factors.Item Adoption of Metaverse in Aerospace Industry: Organizational Perspective(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-06) ABOUELELLA, LEENA; Dr Maria PapadakiThis study aims to identify the factors that influence the adoption of metaverse in the Aerospace Industry. Utilizing the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) Framework to develop a deductive questionnaire-based approach. The framework consisted of thirteen independent variables and one dependent variable (Metaverse Use Intention). 13 hypotheses are developed to statistically test the relationships between the 14 variables of the research model. The study adopted a convenience sampling approach, the population focused on the aerospace industry worldwide and on a general organizational type. The results from the data analysis from linear regression analysis suggest that the there is no statistical significance on the adoption of metaverse. The descriptive statistics collected offer an understanding of the perceptions and attitudes towards metaverse in the Aerospace Industry. The study contributes to innovation in the Aerospace Industry and provide a steppingstone to taking next steps in adopting Metaverse.Item The mediating role of technology orientation in the relationship between risk management and performance of Dubai smart infrastructure projects(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-03) Alkaabi, Hessa; Dr Waris KhanDubai's infrastructure has been ranked 7th globally due to its efficiency, effectiveness, and use of advanced technologies. The success of Dubai's infrastructure can be attributed to five major factors; firstly, the government's dedication to ensuring that Dubai's infrastructure is among the best in the world. Secondly, the availability of cheap and plentiful labor from South Asia, which reduces construction costs. Thirdly, the honest and diligent administration of the Road and Transportation Authority (RTA), which ensures timely project delivery within budgetary limits. Fourthly, the RTA's role in project allocation, design approval, and safety compliance. Finally, Dubai's strict traffic and vehicle laws, which ensure safety and penalize violators. Hence, primary research was designed to investigate if technological innovation is impacting positively on the performance of the projects of smart infrastructure but it also turned risk management further complicated. The research was conducted on a private construction agency in the United Arab Emirates. The survey tool used to collect data from its participants and 100 responses considered to analyses. The primary research findings are consistent with the literature review, indicating that risk management is crucial in optimizing smart infrastructure projects. The study revealed that respondents recognized the significance of all stages of risk management in the context of smart infrastructure. However, the research identified that organizations in Dubai need to improve their risk management practices as they struggle to effectively mitigate risks and implement risk mitigation plans. Despite this, respondents were content with the early warning practices and pre-monitoring measures in place to identify potential risks. Primary research recommending to cconduct a comprehensive risk assessment, implement robust security measures, develop a disaster recovery plan, conduct regular security audits, train employees on cyber security best practices, collaborate with cyber security experts, and stay up-to-date with cyber security trends to further enhance the efficiency and outcome of smart infrastructure and lower the risks.Item Effectiveness of communication processes in Agile Project Management Approach in the UAE Utility Sector(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2023-03) AFIFI, MUTASIM ABDALLA HASSANThe goal of this study is to find out how well the communication processes in the UAE Utility Industry work with the Agile Project Management Approach. For this reason, the present study will incorporate a quantitative research methodology that will allow the researcher to verify secondary data on the agile project management strategy. The study concludes that it is unusual, rather than expected, for there to be a clear and systematic method for identifying the fundamental causes of things such as conflicts and delays-causing modifications. This study aims to categorize and rank the most important reasons of disputes and various delays in construction in order to identify the root causes of delays; and to suggest solutions to minimize the delays and their impact on the parties involved in the construction project. Following a comprehensive literature review, a questionnaire for a detailed survey and interviews was developed to identify the root causes of the factors of controversies, disputes, and variations that lead to delays in order to rank the factors influencing such delays according to their severity, probability, and impact. In addition, after identifying and categorizing the causes of disputes, variations, and delays, the causes were divided into nine major groups: Consultant Allied Factors (FACONS), Contractor Allied Factors (FACONT), Design Allied Factors (FADG), Equipment Allied Factors (FAEQ), External Allied Factors (FAEX), Labor Allied Factors (FALB), Materials Allied Factors (FAMT), and Client/Owner Allied Factors (FAPT). The general result of the research is that financial concerns, as well as the failure of joint venture and subcontract management, play a key part in the UAE construction industry's project delays. The customer will monitor how the general contractor pays his subcontractors and suppliers, as well as any other issues that delay the project's completion. The Client must evaluate the Contractor's technical and financial capabilities to ensure that the collaborative project is completed on time so that they can start to realize the benefits of their investment, they must plan the project's schedule in light of their financial resources and create an effective financial plan for the prompt payment of qualified and deserving vendors and other stakeholders.Item The Influence of Kanban Project Management Methodology Success Factors on Data Science Project Teams(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2022-06) AHMED, ARWAThe current study targeted the issue of Kanban methodology integration for the needs of effective management of Data Science project teams. The rapid growth in the number of Data Science projects that are being implemented in the contemporary world has increased the relevance of the study in this sphere. It is vital to develop effective and reliable project management methods that can enhance the productivity and quality of cooperation among members of a Data Science project team. Organizational Risk Management (ERM) emerged as a new approach for managing organizational risks, concentrating on mechanisms to increase corporate governance and risk management in a holistic manner across many enterprise domains. The aim of this research is to explore the different factors that contribute to the success of ERM in healthcare organizations. For doing this the author examines global scenarios of implementation of ERM in healthcare organizations as well as its further insights during Covid-19. Main findings from the literature indicating that there is a fundamental gap on the implementation of ERM in the UAE healthcare sector. Design/methodology/approach– The study examines the organizational factors that led to effective ERM. A quantitative methodology using survey questionnaire was conducted online for 100 employees in Tashafi al-Futtaim clinics. To give a better representation of Tashafi healthcare group, the sampling frame was based on random sampling of board of directors, senior and Junior Management. The respondents were asked questions about the organizational factors that contributed to the implementation of effective ERM in the organization including the governance and culture in their organization; Strategy development plans; ongoing Risk assessment; Information and communication; Roles and responsibilities of risk management team and Monitoring and control within the organization. Findings – Based on gathered data using SPSS, the study is statistically significant, additionally the six organizational factors in the study have positive correlation to implementation of effective ERM. However, different levels of agreement of each independent variable to dependent variable indicate different levels of contribution of each organizational factor on effective implementation of ERM. Findings present that the study organization has high agreement and correlation on contribution of governance and culture, and Monitoring and control to the effective implementation of ERM. While strategy development, risk assessment, Roles and responsibilities, and information and communication had mixed agreement to effective implementation to ERM. Research limitations/implications – The survey was conducted on Tashafi AL Futtaim clinics management employees through online link on google forms this presented a limitation of diverse sample of employees conducting the survey. Furthermore, the study is limited to a single healthcare institution, limiting the impact of organizational factors on effective ERM implementation. Practical Implications-. Despite these advancements, little research has been done on the elements that contribute to effective ERM adoption. The demand for ERM adoption has prompted organizations in a variety of industries, including healthcare, to adopt it as it is necessary to address risk management in healthcare to be within context of patient safety. Originality/value – Although large number of articles and studies have explored enterprise risk management (ERM), there are little data about effective ERM implementation in healthcare organizations in the Middle East specifically in Dubai. In the 1950s, the draft guidance was applied depending on the development of events and the performance of specific tasks by the strategies of managers for significant protection programs. In this sense, the leaders' project was different from the associative center exercises. This ability has helped administrators meet practical commitments to the enterprise, as well as provide self-sufficiency and space to carry out their assigned tasks. The conclusions drawn from the review are consistent with past exams, which confirm that professionalism in project development depends on different parts of the leaders' activities. Among other things, the creation of a board of directors is vital in light of the fact that a fruitful executive enterprise begins with the amalgamation of cycles and individuals into a development project. Empowering managers have a significant impact on good business results. Many companies start out with smart thoughts, huge speculation, and incredible effort. However, most of them do not make much progress. Business leaders are locked in to successfully complete a task, and they are locked in to ensure that the scope of the entire business is set from start to finish. Consequently, project managers ensure that the tasks performed contain everything needed to complete the venture, as specified in the agreement. The impact of efficient use of time on project development, as well as low time and cost efficiency, was a major issue widespread in the global development industry, and the UAE was not a special case. Correspondence is becoming an essential tool for thinking, learning, sending, addressing, and maintaining culture. Correspondence is a way of creating and transmitting social qualities. In fact, culture is the result of social contacts. Moreover, the opposite is also true: correspondence exercises are essential to building, forming, maintaining, and communicating with the community.Item Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Automation of Supply Chain(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2021-12) ALTAHER, MAITHAThe current study was conducted by means of a quantitative research design with the focus being that of the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in terms of supply chain automation. Herein, the author focused on investigating supply chain-based automation trends, evaluating the type of supply chain outcomes that technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence lead to, and the type of technologies that lead to improvements in the supply chain. For this purpose, the author had made use of a suitably large sample size of one hundred and eighty-five participants. These participants were sent an online survey questionnaire comprised of five demographic questions and fourteen survey question items. This allowed the author to find that machine learning is highly prevalent in the UAE’s supply chains with artificial intelligence being specifically lacking. Through the findings, it was concluded that this may be due to the fact that artificial intelligence currently remains as a developing technology that needs to be furthered greatly in order to be relevant in the current supply chain environment. Lastly, the author was able to recommend that supply chains should integrate technologies that combine with the human effort rather than focus on replacing them. Conventional methods in managing projects are considered unqualified and ill-prepared to handle these dynamic settings. Agile methodologies have acquired considerable vogue, significant interest and growing attention from the public as well as industries. The possibilities it brings are tremendous, and its benefits and values are well manifested and potentially more to offer in the other fields than software. Nowadays, agile has surpassed the small scale projects, and recently, many companies are keener to apply it on organisational level and large scale projects. This research is geared toward exploring the different characteristics that support and promote agile project management methodology within the context of mega-events. It will also investigate from the stakeholder perspective, how this application can be influenced and boosted through effective management of stakeholders. A conceptual framework developed from the thorough and critical review of the literature is proposed to determine the influence the effective stakeholder management framework (adopted after Yang et al. 2009) has on these ‘scaled’ agile characteristics and eventually on agile implementation in mega-events. The framework was applied in an exploratory survey with experienced people from diverse mega-events environments. The data gathered were processed via specialised software packages and thoroughly analysed against statistical standards. Due to the scarcity of scholarly papers that tackle mega-events from a project management perspective, and the modernity and novelty of agile methodology and its confined application within information technology and software development sectors, it was quite a challenge to find literature that explored this methodology in megaprojects. Hence, a broader approach in reviewing the scholarships was followed. Non-IT industries focusing primarily on large-sized organisations, construction sectors, enterprise-level agility and programme/ portfolio management levels (agile-at-scale) were investigated. The literature revealed of eleven peculiar features of agile in the mega-events context covering the following dimensions; project output & business values, customer involvement, communication and transparency, planning approach, team structure, leadership and culture, organisation structure, governance, learning & coaching, and hybrid method. The adopted framework for stakeholder management identified fifteen factors bundled into four groups; namely, information inputs, stakeholder estimate, decision making and stakeholder sustainable support. All stakeholder factors have proved evident influence on the agile characteristics. The study suggested the comprehension of all these factors to achieve an optimum influence. It also proposes – given the level of influence of these factors – classifying “information inputs” and “stakeholder estimate” as primary factors and “decision making” and “stakeholder sustainable support” and secondary. The study ends with a set of recommendations concluded from the study's outcomes and the literature review. These propositions mainly target organisations and decision makers within the mega-events industry and agile practitioners to shape the path forward in managing projects in mega-events.Item The impact of cultural diversity on project management communication(The British University in Dubai, 2022-03) HUSSEIN, ALAA BASSAM FUADIntroduction: Project management communication plays a critical role in ensuring the success and quality of the project delivery in the projects between diversified cultural project team members. considering the importance of effective and efficient project management communication, especially in the diversified cultural project teams, the research was carried out with the aim of highlighting the impact that cultural diversity has on project management communication in the IT sector of the UAE. Methodology: The research adopted an exploratory research design where the data was collected from 100 project managers and project team members who are working in the IT sector of the UAE using the survey questionnaire as the mode of data collection. Findings and Results: Based on the findings of the research, it was concluded that the significance value is less than 0.05, which means that the model of this study is highly significant. The cultural diversity p-value is 0.001, which is below 0.05. Therefore, the first hypothesis is accepted that there is a significant impact of cultural diversity on project management communication. The p-value of language barriers is also below 0.05, which also leads to the acceptance of the second hypothesis. Language barriers have a significant impact on project management communication in IT projects in the UAE. The p-value of cultural beliefs and project management leadership is also below 0.05, which leads to acceptance of the third and fourth hypotheses that the difference is that cultural beliefs have a significant impact on project management communication and the project manager’s leadership efficiency has a significant impact on project management communication. The results of the study are in line with some previous research, who said that when examined in terms of age, gender, and ethnicity, having a diverse workforce has a positive impact on the organization's performance. Implications: A diverse workforce, according to the author, may help a firm enhance efficiency and creativity. The findings of the research also discovered that project managers saw diversity as a key factor in increasing creativity in the workplace. Project managers play a critical role in fostering workplace diversity, and they must be held accountable for their efforts. In order to effectively lead their teams, PMs must invest time in learning about the unique work cultures of the individuals in their teams. It's a win-win situation for the team's health and well-being. All project managers should attend multicultural seminars, particularly those aimed at conflict resolution, in order to better comprehend the makeup of their organization's workforce. Aside from that, corporations should make it a regular practice or point of responsibility to send their PMs to external training in intercultural competency or to bring in consulting firms that specialize in this area of expertise to provide the training on a regular basis. Communication breaks down when we assume that other people share our worldview, which is impossible since we come from such diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.Item The Influence of Emerging Risks from the Implementation of Artificial Intelligence on Project Management(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2022-04) HAQIQI, MARAM MASOUDPurpose: This research aims to identify the emerging risks of the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in project management. It will contribute to literature, through understanding the risks associated with the usage of artificial intelligence in project management based on the perception of users from different specializations. This research will focus on explaining the four main risk categories, namely legal, administrative, technical and cultural risks, that are related to the usage of artificial intelligence in project management. Methodology: A quantitative research method was employed to collect necessary data related to the usage of artificial intelligence in project management, through the distribution of an online questionnaire. The online questionnaire increased the likelihood of a higher number of responses; increased the speed of collecting responses; and enabled the inclusion of necessary and required questions sufficient to gather suitable data. The questionnaire was divided into two sections, the first helped in understanding the participants’ background, and the second section was an assessment of the influence of the emerging risks of the implementation of artificial intelligence on project management. The results from the questionnaire were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA approach in SPSS software. Findings: The responses show that participants from different specializations had different concerns about two factors from the technical category which are “the need of several experiments and trials” and “unintentional mistakes in added inputs”. From the administrative category, responses show that participants from different specializations had different concerns about the factor “high cost”. Also, responses show that participants from different specializations had different concerns about “inequitable progress as a result of differing perceptions of AI responsibilities and tasks” from the cultural category. In addition, responses show that participants from different specializations had different concerns about one factor from the legal category, namely “data collection regulations”. Value: This research identified the links between the usage of artificial intelligence models in project management. It categorized the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence and studied their impact and influence on project management. The research helped in developing a better understanding of how to minimize the impact of the identified risks on project management, to ensure delivering outcomes successfully. It also explained the perception of users from different specializations on the application of project management.Item Risk Assessment of International Joint Ventures Construction Projects in UAE(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2015-04) BAKIR, ABDALLAH YOUSEFInternational Joint Ventures become the popular form of collaboration between contractors to overcome projects complexity in United Arab Emirates. However, contractors have to manage and control IJVs efficiently to achieve their goals and objectives. For this reason, in this research the risk management techniques were utilized to identify and to assess the risks associated with IJVs in UAE. Moreover, a broad scope of understanding the relationships between risks’ factors and their impact on IJVs’ performance. Through an in-depth study of previous literatures, many factors were found to impact IJVs performance. For the purpose of this study, Partner and Host country related-factor were assessed in the context with IJVs in UAE. The conceptual framework was designed to rank the risks based on level of importance. In addition, the conceptual framework was proposed to test the relationships between the risks indicators and impacts on IJVs performance. Based on the proposed conceptual framework, a survey, and semi-structured interviews were designed and conducted for primary data collection. Based on previous literatures, a total number of 42 questions were designed to identify the risk of IJV, assess their impact, and test the relationships proposed in the conceptual framework. The sample of participants for the survey was selected randomly by visiting contractors working on IJV projects in UAE. A total of 200 emails were sent through a web-based questionnaire, out of this number only 56 respondents completed the survey. On the other hand, a pre-prepared set of questions was designed for exploratory reasons and to fill the gap of the survey. The main findings of both the survey and the interview revealed that in UAE, Inter-partner conflict is ranked the highest among partner related risks. On the contrary, culture difference was ranked the lowest in the same group. On the other hand, in UAE, contractors perceived the construction risks to be the highest risk in host country related-factors. In addition, some of the proposed relationships in the conceptual framework proved reliability while others were rejected such as ownership. Based on the findings, recommendations to the contractors were recorded to spot the light on the critical risks associated with IJVs in UAE construction industry.
