Higher Education plays a major role in developing human capital and contributing to the economic development of the country. This research, therefore, aimed to evaluate the if the higher education curriculums are adequate for meeting labor market demands and economic development of the country. More specifically, the research aimed to assess if higher education were teaching 21st Century Skills to students sufficiently and to propose policy and procedure changes that can help develop 21st century skills in students graduating. The research was conducted at the British University of Dubai, and used a mixed methodology involving survey of 221 students and Interviews of 10 teachers. The research findings support that in the students' perceptions, they were indeed learning 21st Century skills well. Similarly, it was also found that the teachers were making an effort at their level to teach these skills at their own discretion and in an ad hoc manner. However, it was noted that the curriculum did not embed the teaching of 21st Century Skills and there were no standardized protocols or procedures available to teachers to follow for teaching them. The research therefore suggests policy changes and also re-designing of curriculums and teachers' training.Item The Management of Digital Technology towards Equipping Students with 21st Century Skills: Its Implementation in Lower Primary Pedagogy(The British University in Dubai (BUiD), 2020-05) Abu Zahra, HibaThe UAE is working towards fostering the educational attainment and skills that will prepare all students to graduate with the necessary 21st century skills, that the workforce requires, and that will enable the students to be successful in their life. Several educational frameworks have attempted to define what constitutes the 21st century skills. Mutually, the 21st century skills are made up of the 6 Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, character education and citizenship. However, the measurable benefits are only the first 4 Cs, and this paper attempts to explore how ICT tools used in the classroom foster these four skills in young learners. The research looks into the implementation of ICT in the lower primary cycle in an American curriculum school in Dubai. The research recognized the personal views of the teachers on how accessible and feasible ICT implementation is in their classrooms. The research, further, found teachers to value and implement digital tools to foster the skills of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity in the classrooms as they delivered their lessons.
