Science and Mathematics Education in Multicultural Contexts
Abstract
The free, publicly provided education has been a central tenet of the social contract in
every country in the Middle East and North Africa since independence. Several
constituents can benefit from reading and using this book, such as graduate students
and researchers in science education. This chapter aims to provide a preface on the
book, highlighting the main aspects of each of the subsequent twenty chapters and the
plethora of issues related to science and mathematics in multicultural contexts. The
chapter examines the main directions of science and mathematics education,
especially in the main context of the MENA, GCC, and UAE contexts. Also, it states
briefly the main challenges faced in the development of research and practice in these
fields.
